The Lakota Way by Joseph M. Marshall III is a novel that I have grown up with. Though I never actually read it until I was in middle school, my mother loved the book immensely and would often play it on the radio while we made long journeys to South Dakota State University. The book is filled with stories that encompass the values that the Lakota people live by. Such as: compassion, courage, and honesty. It wasn't until the summer of my eighth grade year when I was at wiwanyang wachi (sun dance) that I actually read the book myself. When I did, I couldn't get enough of it I was completely blown away. Not only where the stories themselves beautiful, but the fact that it was written by a Sicangu Lakota was even more amazing. This book by far is my favorite, and if you ever wanted to learn more about Lakhota values I would highly recommend reading it sometime.
