Do politics have a place in ceremonies? If not, where is the line drawn? I’ve been mulling over these questions since speakers from the Sunrise ceremony made a multitude of politically-charged comments. I wasn’t at all bothered by them, partially because my ideologies happened to align with what was presented. I was thrilled even with the calls to action. It was only later that it came to my attention that the incorporation of political agendas could be considered offensive, regardless of affiliation. But do indigenous people have the luxury of being apolitical?
