As you can see, I was banished to the kiddie table.
But really, this Thanksgiving was the first one i’ve spent away from home. I expected to be saddened by this, but I ended up being a much better experience.
I am not a fan of Thanksgiving, and I don’t even like saying, “Happy Thanksgiving!” to people in passing. I don’t really celebrate it, and this is the first year that I had the freedom of abstaining. But sure, I still sat around a table with good food and even better company. And I loved that.
Thanksgiving to my family at home was always the typical ordeal that operated on the assumption that the Natives and pilgrims had a mutually beneficial and completely reciprocal relationship. My friendsgiving this year was not nearly as uncomfortable, although I was put on the spot and asked to talk about my indigenous perspective of the holiday (when my mouth was full of mashed potatoes, no less).
