Week 8 Makeup Assignment

I read Sherman Alexie's South By Southwest short story and I couldn't help but be reminded of a song by Johnny Lee titled "looking for love". The short story follows the main characters, Seymour and Salmon Boy and their journey in which they are looking for love. They travel from Washington to Arizona. Throughout the short story there are various events that indicate that the travel buddies are looking for love. Seymour repeats it multiple times while robbing people at IHOP, they ask an elderly white lady about love, and they even have multiple intimate conversations. These are indicators for the million dollar question that these two are trying to answer: where can I find love? Johnny Lee sings "looking for love in too many faces, searching their eyes, looking for traces, of what I'm dreaming of, hoping to find a friend and a lover". These lyrics parallel Seymour and Salmon Boy's journey. The song ends on a high note as Johnny Lee finds his lover and if Seymour and Salmon Boy continue on their journey so will they.
